Day 1 Richmond Castle / Pahiyangala / Makeli Ella / Mathugama

The first point of the program is a visit to Richmond Castle in Kalutara. This place is famous for its old architecture. This English mansion owned by philanthropist Padikara Mudali Nanayakkara Rajawasala Appuhamilage Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena is open to visitors today. Richmont Castle is a two-story building with 99 doors and 34 windows decorated with stained glass perfectly showing the vines. The gardens that once boasted lush flowers have now given way to trees such as coconut, mangosteen, veralu, guava, mango, rambutan and other citrus trees. Mudalijar was a nature lover and decorated the garden with marble statues, some of which still stand today.
Another highlight of the program is a visit to the Pahiyangala (Fa-Hien) cave, where the remains of our ancestors from the late Pleistocene were found. There is also a large Buddha statue and a Buddhist monastery.
After the cave tour we will go to see the charming Makeli Ella waterfall. Some call it the bride’s veil. It used to be a popular bathing spot, but now there is a viewing platform.
After finishing we will go to Mathugama, where the tallest Buddha statue in Asia is located. Return to the hotel on the beach. End of service.
